Update Your WordPress Ping List

Written by Bec on December 18, 2014 – 7:46 PM -

traffic_button Here’s a traffic/SEO tip for WordPress users. recently updated their SEO tested ping list in November 2014.

Just copy the list, and then go to your Settings > Writing and scroll to bottom where it says Update Services. Delete the one ping site listed (or all of them if you already have a bigger, older list) and then paste the list you grabbed from Now edit the first line that goes to Feedburner to be a proper http://link for your website and then save! That’s all you need to do to have notifications of your new posts appear on more ping services. More services will result in search engines returning to your site faster to index your post.

Note: be sure each URL is on its own line and ideally a blank between each URL is a good thing as well, but not necessary.

Free SSL and Web Encryption in Summer 2015

Written by Bec on November 19, 2014 – 6:51 PM -

Yesterday, November 18th, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) announced a project that will make SSL and encryption on the web completely free. They have created a non-profit organization called the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG) in collaboration with Mozilla, the University of Michigan, Cisco, Akamai and Identrust.

The ISRG are launching a project called Lets Encrypt which will be making free SSL certificates available for any website starting Summer 2015. But they go further than that. It has always been fairly technical to install an SSL certificate and so Lets Encrypt are creating applications for platforms like Linux and other web hosting operating systems that let you install and activate SSL for your web server with a few keystrokes.

So the net result is that, starting Summer 2015, not only will SSL for any website on the Net be completely free, but you will also be able to install and activate SSL on your site with just a few keystrokes and no payment.

Wordfence has put together a detailed blog post showing the impact of not using SSL with some additional details about this important announcement including the EFF’s video explanation of the project. This has a big impact on WordPress users because the net result is that SSL will be the default for all well maintained WordPress websites by late next year.

Help spread the word because this is a major change for many WordPress websites who currently do not use SSL.

Free Multiple Title Testing Plugin For WP

Written by Bec on September 21, 2014 – 9:17 PM -

Improve Your Click Thru Ratios By Split Testing Your Titles

Most people will decide to read your article based solely on it’s title. But are your titles as strong as they could be to get that all important click?

With the WP-Experiments-Free plugin you can test your titles and determine which is your best post title. Our goal is to get more clicks and generate more revenue, and I know we’re all really interested in making more money!

Use the process of A/B Split Testing to try different variations of your post titles to get a higher click through rate. It’s very simple to add multiple versions of an article title that will be randomly displayed in any post list. Each time the article is listed it is counted as an impression. Each time the article is visited it is counted as a view. This will easily let you see what percentage of impressions get clicked on for each title.

First step is to download the plugin WP-Experiments-Free to your hard drive. Unzip it and send it up via ftp into your wp-content/plugins folder. Now login to your blog and activate the plugin.

When you bring up your add new post page you will see the option to +Add New Title under the first title block. Try to come up with two or three variations of good titles that contain SEO Friendly keywords. Finish up your post and publish it. After you feel your page has gotten enough traffic, just log back in to your admin area and bring up a post in EDIT mode to see the click thru statistics. Once you’re satisfied that you have determined which title works best for your post, just delete the ones that didn’t perform as well.

If you want more in-depth methods of testing you can read a how to article on Split Testing Using Google Analytics.

Personally, I find that the Google Analytics method of testing just puts me in a mind coma but with this free title testing plugin I was A/B split testing in mere seconds!

Click here for more information on how and what this free split testing plugin can do. If you need to test more than just your post titles check out the developer’s homepage at for a pro version.
