Making the Sale
Written by Bec on January 11, 2008 – 6:59 PM -Â Making the Sale by Stephen Yagielowicz
I’ve seen a lot of comments on the boards of late concerning the growing difficulties in making sales — difficulties driven by a number of factors, including one that doesn’t get an awful lot of recognition: an operator’s understanding of basic marketing concepts such as AIDA, as well as the psychology surrounding these concepts.
AIDA, an acronym within marketing circles for Attention, Interest, Desire and Action, is used to describe the four common steps within the consumer’s purchasing decision cycle; and is a concept that I saw vividly demonstrated in a porn purchase I made a while ago, when I saw an adult magazine on a newsstand – and I just had to have it.
No common occurrence, it may have been well over a decade since the last time I bought a men’s magazine; and while I purchase many periodicals, in today’s digital age, I don’t seek out print publications for my porn fix. Indeed, with the exception of the occasional pay-per-view cable television episode of Naked News, I don’t tend to purchase any type of adult entertainment, given the volume of it available for free online and the size of my own personal collection of homemade erotica; featuring myself and my favorite model.
But as this story illustrates, it’s not that I’m unwilling to pay for porn, it’s just that so few producers, publishers or website owners do a good-enough job of selling their wares that I’m willing to pay for them: And I’m not alone, as the current market conditions confirm.

The Rising Tide of Technology
Written by Bec on January 11, 2008 – 6:57 PM -As 2007 neared the finish line there was a tendency among webmasters to look closely at their bottom line, even to the exclusion of some other facts and trends that may directly impact next year’s balance sheet significantly.
For that reason, XBIZ is taking a moment to highlight some very important changes that have already started to impact our industry and may become dominant reasons as to why some companies succeed next year while others miss out.
TECH ADVANCEMENTS
At its core the online adult industry is as much about the rising tide of technology as it is about the carnal heat of onscreen performers. In the U.S. two major advancements took root in the consumer tech segment during 2007 and both are guaranteed to grow even more rapidly as we move forward: the advent of Verizon FIOS and the introduction of the iPhone.

ASACP Named to 2008 Associations Advance America Honor Roll
Written by Bec on January 9, 2008 – 6:30 AM -
Los Angeles, CA (January 7, 2008) – The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) has been named to the 2008 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and The Center for Association Leadership, Washington, DC.
ASACP received the award for its RTA “Restricted To Adults†website label which was developed out of a need for an easy to use and internationally recognized label that designates content for adults only. The RTA label is a unique string of “meta data†which can easily be inserted into the computer code of any website. Parental filtering software recognizes the tag and prevents children from viewing age-inappropriate material. The RTA label is free and universally available. ASACP launched RTA in November 2006 and it now has over four million link-ins.
Now in its 18th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward – with innovative projects in education, skills training, standard setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship, and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public and even sometimes by its own members.
“ASACP’s program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are making to Advance American society,†remarked Associations Advance American Committee Chair Matthew D’Uva, CAE, President of SOCAP International.
“Only 15 programs were named to the honor roll putting ASACP and RTA among some elite company,†stated Executive Director Joan Irvine. “We are very honored to receive this award and grateful to everyone who has made this possible by choosing to label with RTA.â€
To view the award, go to: http://www.asacp.org/page.php?content=awards.
Founded in 1996, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet. ASACP battles child pornography through its CP reporting hotline, and by organizing the efforts of the online adult industry to combat the heinous crime of child sexual abuse. ASACP also works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online. For more information, go to www.asacp.org.Â
To use the new RTA (Restricted to Adults) meta tag go to RTALabel.org and simply copy/paste the meta tag into the header of all of your sites that contain adult content.

Cybernet Expo Launches New Website for 2008 San Francisco Show
Written by Bec on January 7, 2008 – 12:25 AM -Burbank, CA, — Cybernet Expo is pleased to announce the launch of its all new website for the 2008 event in San Francisco. In addition to basic information about Cybernet Expo, including dates for the June show, the website also provides information about currently available sponsorship packages, information about the host hotel, and the option to sign up for Cybernet Expo updates by email.
“We gave the website a new look to compliment the all new San Francisco destination,” says Connor Young, President of YNOT Network. “Cybernet Expo has been a part of the adult Internet industry since the very beginning and we’re pleased to continue its tradition of excellence. The show has always been focused on the adult Internet business, and with a great new destination for 2008, and a brand new website, we’re off to a fast start. This show is for companies who sell adult entertainment online.”
The 2008 Cybernet Expo trade show will take place at the Golden Gateway hotel in San Francisco, California, from June 10th through June 12th. The Golden Gateway Hotel is located in the center of downtown San Francisco, just steps away from the historic California Cable Car turnaround in the lower Nob Hill / Pacific Heights neighborhood. The hotel is near all major city attractions, with shopping, dining and entertainment choices, all within walking distance.
Geared exclusively towards the adult Internet business, Cybernet Expo provides attendees with a mix of informative seminars and unique networking opportunities. The seminars will feature expert speakers from successful online adult companies offering tips and techniques on how to make more money with adult websites. Evening events like the Show and Sell Marketing Event and sponsored industry-only parties at various San Francisco hot spots will provide attendees with opportunities to talk business with industry peers in a fun setting.
“Everyone I talk to is extremely excited about having an adult Internet show in San Francisco,” says LAJ, Director of Operations for Cybernet Expo. “People love that city. The fact that over 1/2 of the show’s sponsorships are already sold out five months in advance should be a great indicator of not only how big the show will be, but also the value that Cybernet Expo provides to both sponsors and attendees.”
Corporate Sponsors for this year’s show thus far include AEBN, FlashCash and DatingGold. YappoDollars has signed on as the Conference Sponsor, and High Def Riches has claimed the Registration and Attendee Bag Sponsorships. Additional confirmed sponsors include FTV Cash for the Card Key Sponsor, and GroobyBucks for the Wristband Sponsor.
Cybernet Expo, now in its 11th year, was acquired in late 2007 by YNOT Network, LP. The show had been owned previously by longtime operators Tradeshow Productions, Inc., although YNOT Network had been partners in the event for several years.
For more information about Cybernet Expo, please visit the website at http://www.cybernetexpo.com. Several sponsorship packages are still available. If you are interested in marketing your company at Cybernet Expo, please contact LAJ at jay@ynot.com or ICQ#92418228.
