Active Ping List for 2012
Written by Bec on April 3, 2012 – 7:48 AM -If pingomatic is the only site listed under your ping site list you may want to add additional ping sites to your blog settings. There is a recent ping list published by MaxBlogPress‘ (Feb. 2012) blog that shows you what ping sites are currently active, which ping sites are a “must have” for your list, and also a list of recently de-activated sites so that you can edit older lists you may be using for your blogs. Personally, I’d just copy and paste over any old listings and save it… saves you a ton of time and effort to keep current with your listings.
There is also a step by step guide on how to add the ping list, which should take you all of 1 minute to complete.
Be sure to check out the other MaxBlogPress blog helpers: Ping Optimizer, Ninja Affiliate, Duplicate Posts Checker, Optin Form Adder, and lots more helpful plugins for bloggers!

Ten Basic Marketing Tips For Bloggers
Written by Bec on December 12, 2011 – 7:00 AM -
1. Once you have a week or so of good posts on your new blog submit it to blog directories and blog link lists. Also submit the blog url to paid directories with categories for blogs – Yahoo, BOTW, bCentral, WOW, JoeAnt.
2. Optimize your blog for good search engine ranking by using keyword meta tags, meta descriptions, alt tags on all imagery, font treatments of specific keywords: H1, H2, H3 or bold, underlined, or italic, etc. Also: Install and learn to use the All in One SEO plugin. You should also install and configure a Google Sitemap plugin.
3. Initiate an ongoing link building campaign. Do free blogroll trades with other bloggers (find some similiar niche bloggers to trade with at places like www.linkspun.com) Get some A/B/C links happening with these trades as well as A/B style links. Also do some paid listings with sites that have a PR2 or higher ranking. Be sure to request feedback or reviews of your blog in relevant forums, blogs and discussion threads. If you have a resource post that will help others, point to it. Monitor inbound links, traffic, comments and mentions of your blog at sites like Google Alerts, Technorati, Blogpulse, and Yahoo News.
4. Assign tags to each post (in the area where you’re writing the new post on the right hand column you’ll see an area to put some into your post)
5. Show a tag cloud on your sidebar or in the footer (easily done with your widgets). This cloud is created from the tags you put onto your posts, so use good niche keywords and don’t forget to mention model’s by name, sites by name, or a product by name. A search for a particular model could get you in the top ten search engine results!
6. Go do comments on similiar niche blogs: it gets you a free inbound link and traffic to your blog’s url. Always respond to comments on your blog and when you detect a mention of your blog on another blog, thank that blogger in the comments section of the post.
7. Enable automatic trackback and ping functionality and then add additional sites to the ping list in Settings -> Writing -> Update Services *Note: Be sure to delete the one ping site url that is there before copy/pasting in a new list and each url MUST be on its own line or it won’t save or work properly. Install the CBNet Ping Optimizer plugin that prevents over pinging of the services if you need to do some after posting edits to your articles.
8. Create a Feedburner Pro account and enable feed tracking. Install and use the Feedburner Plugin. Learn more about Using Feedburner from an article on the WordPress.org.
9. Using a link cloaking plugin like Ninja Affiliate will stop surfers and link thieves from changing or removing your affiliate code and also removes the reluctance of a lot of surfers from clicking an affiliate link.
10. Upload and configure a Social Sharing plugin for surfers to quickly spread the word about a post they like. Also use the Social Networking to your own advantage on forums and discussion threads to connect with other bloggers. If they like your stuff, they will link to you.

Watching Out for Naughty WordPress Plugins
Written by Bec on November 23, 2011 – 7:00 AM -
It recently came to light that some plugin developer had managed to use a fake jQuery inclusion to steal clicks and re-route site visitors to a different URL.
Beware Fake jQuery Inclusions by WordPress Plugins in the Repo, an article by By Siobhan McKeown goes into great detail on just how this exploit worked. While this isn’t a WordPress hack it is a jQuery hack, and something we all need to be aware of when selecting WordPress add-ons. Just as we need to inspect the code we find in templates we use, we need to insure that other features we have blindly trusted in the past are also secure.
We received an email today from a WordPress user who wanted to alert us to a jQuery hack. At first, I’ve got to admit, I was a little bit sceptical but I thought it was worth looking in to. I was surprised by what I found.
We all love jQuery – sometimes I like to daydream about marrying it in some sort of exotic ceremony in Barbados. In fact, it’s so awesome that it’s become a little bit ubiquitous. There are so many plugins using jQuery that we’re totally used to finding it in them.
Normally a WordPress plugin will get jQuery from just a few places:
Google CDN
WordPress itself
Microsoft CDN
jQuery CDNBut what if you had a plugin that was getting it’s jQuery from http://j-query.org?
That seems pretty legit, right? I mean it’s got j-query in the damned domain! And when you visit it, you end up at http://jquery.org – the official site of jQuery.
Oh… wait…. http://j-query.org and http://jquery.org – they’re not the same, are they?
No, they’re not. And http://j-query.org isn’t even registered by the people at jquery. It’s registered with domains by proxy, and forwards to servers at Media Temple.
So it’s got to be suspicious when you find three WordPress plugins that all contain this piece of code:

If you aren’t using Theme Check to inspect your wordpress THEMES (doesn’t check the jQuery if used in plugins), here’s a link to download it … Theme Check

WordPress Membership Plugin From Wishlist
Written by Bec on November 9, 2011 – 7:00 AM -
Look what I found… and right on the heels of my talking about converting a WordPress tube site into a paying member site! It’s only the second membership plugin designed to work with WordPress that I have come across and it was developed and released by the Wishlist Products team.
WishList Member is a powerful, yet easy to use membership solution that can turn any WordPress blog into a full-blown membership site.
Just unzip and upload the plugin, and within minutes you’ll have your own membership site up and running… complete with protected, members-only content, integrated payments, member management, and so much more!
From the features list it looks like this Wishlist Members plugin is going to save me a TON of time when it comes to creating a membership site.
P.S They also posted a bunch of free videos demonstrating the software on the main site.

The Next Step: Turning Your WP Tube Into A Paysite
Written by Bec on November 4, 2011 – 7:00 AM -
In my last post I discussed how to setup a free tube site using WordPress and a free WPTube theme. Today I’ll go over a couple of points that can take you to the next step: converting your WordPress tube site into a membership paysite.
Using the free Wp-paysite plugin you can create a member’s area that is password protected. This free PaySite script gives you the ability to run a membership site based on the WordPress platform. It covers both front-end and back-end functionality preserving generic WordPress features. As you add 30 second or 1 minute video clips to the tube in the public area, you’re add the matching full length video inside the member’s area.
Features:
- Handles both photo and video updates for the front-end.
- Automatically crops thumbnails for both front-end and members area
- Main update image for photo updates and adjustable number of additional images
- Integrated flash player for video updates display at the front-end.
- Any additional info pages for the front-end.
- Manages photo and video updates at the member area
- Possibility to categorize updates
- Dynamic or static front-end
- Multilingual support
- Configurable number of free tour pages and updates per page
Now create buttons that go under each tube clip that say something like “watch the full length video now!” or “view more” and link it to your join page.
You’ll need to setup a billing system, and I don’t recommend using Paypal, as they are quite likely to terminate your account once they realize you are processing payments for adult content. CCBill is an excellent processor, plus you can also use their services if you decide to open up your paysite to affiliate promotion. Other adult billing processors can be found doing a quick search via Google.
Once you have the site built, and your billing processor in place you’re ready to start promoting it. Look for linklists that accept paysite listings, get links and banners onto your other domain properties/blogs. Put together and submit some movie galleries to the tgp sites, and you can also submit some of your tube clips to other tube sites to bring traffic back around to yours. Now have some fun and good luck on generating a nice profit!
**Note: If you are having problems getting your video files to play, try using the free Anarchy Media plugin. There is also a version for non-wordpress websites.

Restricted to Adults WordPress Plugin
Written by Bec on February 28, 2011 – 5:29 PM -
Keeping your blogs “child safe” got a lot easier with the creation of a plugin that works with the Restricted to Adults labeling system. There’s a lot of content which isn’t appropriate for all ages so The [Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP)](http://www.asacp.org/ “ASACP) has developed the Restricted to Adults (RTA) tag which most online protection software respects.
Installing the RTA tag on a WordPress install can be somewhat complicated, so the Restricted to Adults plugin makes it one click — just activate the plugin and your site is restricted to adults. Pick it up here, or do a search and auto install with your plugin side panel options.
For non-wordpress adult sites, grab the meta tag code to use in your header at RTALabel.org

Safely Change Your Permalink Structure Without Search Engine Penalties
Written by Bec on January 19, 2011 – 7:30 AM -
I’m sure many of us have blogs that we setup awhile back where we just automatically used the default permalink structure. IE: someblogdomain.com/?pg=278, not the greatest for SEO. So, if you want to be able to change your permalinks to something like /%category%/%postname% but have been afraid of suffering loss of page rank and other search engine penalites then this plugin may solve your permalink dilemma: Advanced Permalink Plugin
The plugin has been updated to work with WordPress 3.0. To download this plugin and to read over developer and installation notes about it you can visit the author’s site: Urban Giraffe
Here are some of the features of the Advanced Permalink Plugin
Note: You can use the WordPress Plugin Installer to install this for you. Go to Plugins/Add New and do a search for Advanced Permalinks.
