Prevent Affiliate Commission Theft Using Ninja Affiliate

Written by Bec on September 2, 2009 – 8:03 AM -

Affiliate Identity theft;  affiliate link theft;  affiliate commission theft;  – whatever term you use, it means without link cloaking abilities, you, as an affiliate marketer, are being ripped off.  You’re being robbed of your affiliate commissions.

Is affiliate commission theft a serious problem? I really don’t know with absolute certainty. Searching for an answer on the internet has coughed up conflicting information. However, the way I see it, whether you’re losing 5% or 40% of your commissions, a loss by any percentage is still a loss.

Can you prevent affiliate commission theft?

Yes, you can, but not by using any of the free scripts.

There are several methods available, some with free redirect scripts and with some using commercial software. While free methods may reduce the incidence of affiliate link theft or affiliate commission theft, they are unreliable and do not cloak your link, making bypass of  your links really easy. To get full link cloaking you will need to spend some money. The bright side is that the very first affiliate commission theft you prevent will probably pay for the software a couple of times over.

I’m sure you’re aware that simply cloaking or hiding your links isn’t going to bring you ‘rivers of cash’ flowing into your ‘bank vault.’ Link cloaking may merely lessen the frequency of affiliate commission theft, and could reduce the amount of commissions you would have lost.

Now back to those long, ugly and in-your-face affiliate links,  just how do you go about shortening and cloaking them, and how can you prevent commission theft?

1. Some people recommend using free services by websites that shorten your link.  I disagree totally with this method.  These are actually for links to be included in emails, and are not for online website linking purposes.  But, if you insist on trying them, use these services with extreme caution.  They are just re-directing services, and store your information on their servers.  If they go out of business, or remove your link for whatever reason, your links are kaput, gone, ground to dust.  If you’ve used those links in article marketing, blogs or any other media that has been syndicated, you’ll have your links on perhaps thousands of sites all leading nowhere. What a colossal waste of your marketing efforts!

2. Use a re-directing script yourself and upload it to your own domain. This means you’ll need your own website and know how to use ftp, and know how to create a link. Your host server must also allow php. The re-directing script is simplicity itself.

However, note that while this shortens your link into something more attractive, and gives you full control over it, it does NOT cloak your link.  When your visitor lands on the redirected site, your full affiliate link is visible, allowing your visitor to bypass your affiliate ID to deny you your commission.  Why?  I really don’t know either.  But it happens.  Some people simply don’t want anyone earning a commission from their purchase even though they pay the same price with or without using your link.  Go figure.

You need to remember that you cannot cloak or re-direct links for every application. Some affiliate networks and Google Adwords do not allow re-directing or cloaking.  Carefully study the terms and conditions of affiliate publishers before signing up with them or you could be expending a lot of effort for nothing.

3. You can also choose to buy your own cloaking software which gives you more options and complete control not only over link cloaking but commission theft from parasite software as well.  This is the recommended method for serious affiliate marketers – those who actually plan on earning real income from affiliate marketing.

Effective cloaking software not only hides your affiliate links but also protects you from parasite software.  Simple redirects do not offer this protection.

Parasite Software [which apparently is covertly installed on 80% of PCs,] activates after your visitor has landed on the merchant’s web site.  Since the parasite software strikes only after the visitor has arrived at the merchant’s site, redirects are totally ineffective as a protective measure.

It is well worth the cost and effort to keep your affiliate commissions out of other people’s pockets and put it in your own.  After all, you’re the one who spent so much time marketing the product.

To protect your affiliate commissions against link hijackers, link bypassers and parasite software with a comprehensive affiliate link cloaking system, I suggest you check the advanced features and complete cloaking function of Ninja Affiliate, a WordPress plugin that will hand you full control and management of all of your affiliate marketing links.

Besides link cloaking you’ll find that Ninja Affiliate provides you with a terrific combination of link management tools:

  1. Easy Affiliate Link Management – You can easily give each affiliate link an easy-to-remember name.
  2. Flexible Link Management - Accepts every affiliate link format out there, so you don’t have to waste time with various affiliate marketing tools.
  3. Create Professional Redirect Links – Use professional looking redirect links that let your prospects know you’re a pro marketer.
  4. Manage Links by Groups – Too many affiliate links? Ninja Affiliate allows you to easily create different groups to manage your links..
  5. Prevent “Affiliate Theft” – Cloak your affiliate links to prevent link theft and affiliate sabotage. No one will ever steal your hard-earned commissions again..
  6. Insert Affiliate Links Directly – Add your affiliate links directly for your WordPress blog editor – you’ll never have to hunt for links again.
  7. Transform Keywords to Links – Automatically turn keywords in your blog to affiliate links. You can set a limit too, so your posts don’t look like a spam blog!
  8. Advanced Display Options – Ninja Affiliate allows you to display any text you want in your web browser’s status bar.
  9. Use “No-Follow” Links – Control your link juice and escape punishment from Big Daddy Google with ninja precision. In fact, you can control your links any way you want to.

Getting The Most Mileage From Gallery Production

Written by Bec on April 20, 2009 – 12:38 PM -

The following is an outline of how to squeeze the most mileage (and profits) from your weekly routine of gallery production.

On Monday decide what niche you’re going to build for this week. IE: amateur, Asian, bareback, gay for pay, Latino, group sex, Jocks, solo babes, etc.  Pick just one to use for the entire week. For this tutorial let’s do Jocks.

Now build 2 galleries that fit the Jock niche. This can be one gallery of one sponsor and then another gallery of another sponsor, or both galleries can feature the same sponsor site. Be sure the banners/links you use are for the site you got the content from.

Add your recips to the galleries and submit them to the tgp sites.

Put links to the 2 galleries on your hubsite  (or a text gallery page on your blog) Be sure to use clean copies, not showing recips, for these listings.

Add them into your tgp system if you have a tgp. (Real or fake tgp, doesn’t matter, and you can manage and build those types of sites with the Sites Organizer as well).

Now take the 2 clean galleries and make a 4 page style freesite.
pg.1 Warning page with good descriptive keyword title (Jocks Fuck in Lockerroom) and text, banners and link list recips, and keyword/title hyperlinked to the main page. (Enter for Jocks Fucking in Lockerroom)

pg.2 Main page with thumbs to the galleries, and footer circlejerk links.

pg 3. and 4. the 2 Jock galleries.

(How to structure your free site circle jerk and naming method is a different tutorial)

Submit the freesite to the link lists you’ve chosen to use.

Blog about the content you used and link out to your galleries.

Lunch Time

Either repeat the above after lunch, or work on other projects. For this tutorial I’ll assume you just make 2 galleries and 1 freesite per Monday, Tues and Wed.

Tuesday – repeat above.

Wednesday – repeat above, except after lunch we’ll do an AEN (also known as an AVS)  site.

Wed. afternoon — take 5 of the 6 galleries and bundle them into an AEN site.
Submit it to the AEN, and to the link lists that take the AVS site submits. (once you understand what you’re doing and how to set these up, you can submit the same material to more than one AEN)

Add the AEN link onto your hubsite. Go blog about the AEN on your blog using your refer link for them to join whatever AEN you’re using.

Thurs. – repeat the 2 galleries and 1 free site routine.

Friday – in the morning do the 2 galleries and freesite routine, and in the afternoon, gather up the remaining gallery from Wed and combine with Thurs and Fri and do up another AEN site.

In 5 days you have created and submitted 10 galleries.

Added 10 galleries to your hubsites and your own real or fake tgp sites.

Blogged about 10 different sets of content

5 Niche specific Free Sites created and sent to the link lists. (these get built into a circle jerk — a different tutorial)

Five free sites that you can add links out to on your hubsites.

Two AEN sites at the minimum. You will have more if you understand how to submit them to more than one AEN. Plus you’ve blogged about the Jock AEN sites with a link out to each of them.

Are you the site owner/sponsor? Then follow this system and the following week you’ll add those 10 galleries into your affiliate tools, and add those gallery blog posts to the affiliate coded rss feeds. (This works if you’ve put the original clean gallery into your fhg system and used that link in the posts). And you can probably affiliate code the freesites for tools usage as well. Only thing you can’t get extra mileage out of for the affiliate is the 2 AVS sites and their posts.

A juggling act for sure … but a tried and true method for getting the best overall mileage out of those tgp galleries you’re making everyday. And to make the job even more streamlined, check out the Sites Organizer to handle each of the above types of site production, with the exception of the galleries.  For gallery production I recommend Arylia.

Arylia Gallery Builder is a full-featured picture and video gallery creation tool. Many webmasters build their galleries by hand.  They visit a sponsor’s website, download a bunch of images, pick 12 of them, create thumbnails of all 12 by hand, place each thumbnail in their gallery template, link them to full-size pages containing each image, add banners, check linkcodes… etcetera. This process can take an hour per gallery, or longer! Arylia does all of this for you in about 30 seconds, so you can get back to more important things. Check out all of the specs here: Arylia Gallery Builder.

Free Snapshot Media Theme from WooThemes

Written by Bec on February 1, 2009 – 8:00 AM -

I found this free WordPress theme template this morning titled “Snapshot” over on WooThemes, and it looks like it could be setup as a fake tube site using hosted movie files without any effort whatsoever.

Most of their stuff you have to pay for, but that one is actually a free offering.  Just click for ‘our themes” in the top nav and scroll down to demo and download it. It really looks and behaves more like a tube site would than the one they’re calling wootube. What I like is that they’re saying you don’t have to mess with custom fields to get this one up and working!

If you’d like more information on the usability of this theme check out ThemeLab’s Review of Snapshot.

The only other plugin you might want to configure and add in your page code for the “Snapshot Theme” would be the WP-Postviews plugin from Lesterchan.net,  so you can show how many times that video (page) has been loaded in.

Adding Corner Page Peel Ads to Blogs

Written by Bec on January 30, 2009 – 8:35 AM -

Maybe everyone has already figured this out, and I’m late to the party (as usual) but I just figured out how to add those hosted corner peel ads to all of my free hosted blogs! It’ll work on your regular blogs too, but this had me excited since there are quite a few limitations on what can be done with the free hosted blogs. And this is just insanely simple to do.

Go signup at sites like Totem Cash for the Virtua Guy and Virtua Girl products, or go to Wegcash for a dozen or more various corner peel ads in straight and gay categories, including ones that are console free so there’s no popup to annoy your surfer traffic.  And Video Secrets has some for their Flirt4Free sites.

Now go login to your free hosted blog account, and starting with your first one, go to Presentation, and then Widgets. (Note: If you don’t have a widget enabled theme, this setup method won’t work for you. You’ll have to manually add it to your body tag area of your template for non-widget themes) If you have an available text widget drag it up to one of the sidebars, or scroll down a bit and tell it you want more text widgets, pick a number, and save. Now drag one up and open it. Copy and paste in your script code for the corner page peel ad, and drag it up to the top position of the sidebar. Save it… and go admire your handywork! You’re done!

On one or two themes, I did have the page peel ads showing up on the left column sidebar when the theme had 2 sidebars, so I just moved it to the right hand one, and it was fine.

WordPress Link Directory Plugin

Written by Bec on December 17, 2008 – 8:00 AM -

As often happens, I was looking for something else entirely when I came across a relatively new plugin for WordPress (released Oct. 2008) … a LINK DIRECTORY PLUGIN! I kid you not! I have so been hoping someone would code a decent directory plugin and it looks like my prayers have finally been answered.

WordPress Link Directory is a link directory plugin from Sean Bluestone, and made for WordPress. It allows you to create a directory of links and you can even allow other webmasters to add their link to your site. The plugin can check for reciprocal links and even check the Pagerank of the other site. The WordPress directory plugin will then accept or refuse the link based on criteria you specify.

The main features are:

  • Automatically checks for reciprocal links on pages specified by Pagerank.
  • Displays the Pagerank of all sites in the directory.
  • Option to display more detailed information on each link.
  • Available in several languages.
  • Option to notify the admin when a new link is submitted.
  • Integrates seemlessly with WordPress and adopts whichever theme you’re using.

You can view a DEMO here, and DOWNLOAD the directory plugin here. Sean also offers a pro version with additional features, but requires you to fill out a short survery that he gets a little commission off of before unlocking the pro version for a free download. Visit Sean Bluestone’s site for more information on the pro version.

How Can I Edit the Widgets?

Written by Bec on November 17, 2008 – 8:30 AM -

One of the neatest features to WordPress is the widget. With a simple click, a drag and drop, you have customized sidebars in no time flat. But what if the widget just doesn’t display correctly for your theme? Where are the darn things and can they be adjusted?

Answer: Yes, if you’re comfortable editing code, you can edit them, and they’re located on the widgets.php file located in the includes folder of WordPress. You can’t edit this from the design or plugin areas, so you’ll have to download it and do your edits on your drive, and then replace the page online when you’re finished. Reminder: COPY the page before you edit and tuck it in another folder just to be sure you have the original in case something goes wrong!

For example, I just had a client who asked for some setup help, and upon activating the Tag Cloud Widget, I saw that the font size and the number of tag words was just too much for the sidebar space alloted via the template theme he was using. Words were crammed in over others, and the font size had words busting out over the blog edges. Here’s where I did a little editing magic to bring things back into proper scale for his blog:

File to manipulate in a program like Dreamweaver or Notepad: wp-includes/widgets.php

Find this entry around line 1372:
wp_tag_cloud();

Make your changes to:
wp_tag_cloud(’smallest=10&largest=14&number=25&orderby=name’);

“smallest” = the size of the smallest font you want
“largest” = the size of the largest font you want
“number” = the amount of tags you want to appear
“orderby” = is how the orders of the tags will be shown

With some careful customizations of your widgets, you can have full control back on how things look on your blog!
