BuzzBoost - Free RSS to HTML Transformation Tool

BuzzBoost - Free RSS to HTML Transformation Tool

BuzzBoost is a simple service that allows you to cross-promote the content of your feed — be it a blog, podcast or commercial newsfeed — any place where you can display HTML. For example, you can display the latest headlines from your blog on your Web site, your forum, a podcast site, or on a friend’s site. BuzzBoost is FeedBurner’s answer to RSS-to-HTML transformation.

BuzzBoost is really ideal for anyone who wants to use their feed content to gain exposure on the net. As you know, more exposure can often lead to more subscribers. So if you have several blogs or other sites that have their own feeds, BuzzBoost provides a simple way for you to cross-promote them to your non blog websites. Today, if you want people to see the latest entries from your blog, they need to actually read your blog or be subscribed to your feed. BuzzBoost provides other means of communicating and promoting content to your target audience and helps your content go further.

What are the technical requirements to use BuzzBoost?

BuzzBoost’s job is to redisplay your feed content anywhere you can copy and paste a short snippet of HTML code. The actual BuzzBoost code is just a short line of JavaScript that displays content items and information from a FeedBurner feed according to settings you provide. You get to control how BuzzBoost displays the following elements:

  • Feed Title
  • Item publication date
  • Individual item headlines, headlines and plain text, or headlines and original HTML
  • Plain text item excerpt length
  • Your original site’s favicon, if it has one
  • Link to download podcast or videoblog enclosures (if available)

To get started simply sign in to (or create) your FeedBurner account, select the feed you wish to “boost” from My Feeds and then configure the BuzzBoost service from the “Publicize” tab. The service is completely free.

Wordpress Users Be Aware of Fake WP Downloads

Written by Bec on December 1, 2008 – 8:00 am -

As most of you probably already know, the release of Wordpress 2.7 has been delayed. There is a 2.6.5 version available that addresses some security issues. And please take care when searching for WordPress downloads so that you do not end up on a fake WordPress site. Wordpresz.org looks like the site but isn’t.

This is just the first of what could be a run on fake sites that take advantage of your misspellings and spoofs the official WordPress site. Pay close attention to what site URL you are actually on after clicking any links, or type out manually http://www.wordpress.org/ and double check the URL before downloading anything from the official WordPress sites.

If you upgraded WordPress to 2.6.4, you are running a fake version. There is no WordPress 2.6.4. The latest version is 2.6.5. The version of WordPress you download has malicious code in the download that opens a backdoor to your blog.

Automattic is looking at ways to keep users informed and warned about these blog hack attempts, but paying attention to details is your best defense. Just check first and know what you are downloading, and from where, before risking your blog.

Check the Cross Browser Compatability of Your Sites

Written by Bec on November 25, 2008 – 8:30 am -

I’m sure you’ve all found or purchased a fantastic theme or design, and you rush to put it up and get a new site happening, but when you start showing off your latest creation, your friends start saying it looks funky in IE 6 or FireFox or any of a multitude of browsers and browser versions in use today.

So how can you be sure your design is going to work properly in all of these browsers? There is an easy solution: You can plugin your site URL on BrowserShots and check for cross browser compatability. Browsershots makes screenshots of your web design in different browsers. It is a free open-source online service created by Johann C. Rocholl. When you submit your web address, it will be added to the job queue. A number of distributed computers will open your website in their browser. Then they will make screenshots and upload them to the central server on BrowserShots.

It’s a free webmaster tool, and you can easily select, or unselect, the browsers you want your design checked against. They are also listed by Operating System: Linux, Windows, Mac OS and BSD.

And a tip of the hat to Abostonboy for hooking me up to this cool webmaster resource!

More Adult Blog Free Hosts

Written by Bec on November 23, 2008 – 8:30 am -

There seems to be an explosion of sites offering free hosted adult blogs, which is great, because I was having problems getting some of the niche names I was wanting at places like Sensual Writer and Thumblogger. Plus having a bigger selection of urls lets me spread my little blog empire cross linking across a bunch of different ISPs.

Here’s the latest batch I found when visiting various sites and playing in the Search Engines:

www.joy-scape.com (Europe)
www.allmyblog.com - (France)
www.justwank.com

FEMJOY Webmaster Support is A Plus!

Written by Bec on November 22, 2008 – 12:00 pm -

Everyone seems to be pretty quick to complain about poor (or NO) service from Sponsors, and we often forget to praise those that are there for you when you need some help. I have spent the better part of this past week doing my pre-new-niche blog setup groundwork: checking out sites, finding the sponsor site (if there was one), listing who was under what type of billing system and their respective payout structures, promo tools and so on.

One of the sponsors I elected to add to my que is FemCash, as I want to promote their gorgeous artsy nude website: FEMJOY. By Thursday I was well along in my signing up and grabbing my links and banners, and whatever other goodies I could find, when I realized the link code for FEMJOY’s Latest Video Plugin wasn’t carrying my ID through properly. (it’s a wonderful plugin btw!) So I wrote an email and asked how I should put in my ID code. I had an answer back within an hour or two, with an answer on what I needed to do, and Max asked if I had signed in before copying out my codes. (For some reason you can see the linking code without signing in - but they don’t have your ID in them).

I thought I had, but evidently I hadn’t … and that simple question had me running back to make sure I had indeed saved the links correctly. After a bit of time had passed I realized I couldn’t make sense of their RSS feed link (seems I had to have a higher level of access), so I again wrote them, and Max was again quick to respond and help resolve the problem. So Kudos to FemCash for being so prompt with their webmaster support! Now all they need is to add a webmaster referral link I can use on all my Adult Resource sites and I’ll be really happy!

How Can I Edit the Widgets?

Written by Bec on November 17, 2008 – 8:30 am -

One of the neatest features to Wordpress is the widget. With a simple click, a drag and drop, you have customized sidebars in no time flat. But what if the widget just doesn’t display correctly for your theme? Where are the darn things and can they be adjusted?

Answer: Yes, if you’re comfortable editing code, you can edit them, and they’re located on the widgets.php file located in the includes folder of Wordpress. You can’t edit this from the design or plugin areas, so you’ll have to download it and do your edits on your drive, and then replace the page online when you’re finished. Reminder: COPY the page before you edit and tuck it in another folder just to be sure you have the original in case something goes wrong!

For example, I just had a client who asked for some setup help, and upon activating the Tag Cloud Widget, I saw that the font size and the number of tag words was just too much for the sidebar space alloted via the template theme he was using. Words were crammed in over others, and the font size had words busting out over the blog edges. Here’s where I did a little editing magic to bring things back into proper scale for his blog:

File to manipulate in a program like Dreamweaver or Notepad: wp-includes/widgets.php

Find this entry around line 1372:
wp_tag_cloud();

Make your changes to:
wp_tag_cloud(’smallest=10&largest=14&number=25&orderby=name’);

“smallest” = the size of the smallest font you want
“largest” = the size of the largest font you want
“number” = the amount of tags you want to appear
“orderby” = is how the orders of the tags will be shown

With some careful customizations of your widgets, you can have full control back on how things look on your blog!
